Malawi vice-president’s party calls for probe into fatal plane crash

Malawi’s United Transformation Movement (UTM) party, following the tragic death of Vice-President Saulos Chilima in a plane crash, has called for an investigation into the incident.

Chilima, along with eight others, perished on Monday when a military aircraft crashed in Chikangawa Forest amid dense fog during an internal flight.

The UTM, which had formed an alliance with President Lazarus Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) in the 2020 presidential election, is now questioning government ministers about the circumstances surrounding the crash, putting the previously united administration under significant pressure.
