Ukrainian forces allegedly behind drone attack on Russian oil tanks

Ukrainian sources claim responsibility for an overnight drone strike that ignited multiple oil storage tanks near Azov in southern Russia, according to a source in Kyiv.

The attack is part of Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to target Russian energy infrastructure, arguing these facilities support Moscow’s military operations.

Russian authorities confirmed the incident, reporting that oil product tanks in Azov caught fire due to the drone attack, although no casualties were reported, stated Vasily Golubev, governor of Rostov region.

Video footage released by Russia’s emergencies ministry depicted thick smoke and flames engulfing the oil storage site, located in an undisclosed area.

Details regarding the number of drones involved in the attack were not disclosed by Ukrainian officials.

“The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) will continue to execute ‘drone sanctions’ against Russia’s oil refining complex to diminish the aggressor’s economic capabilities in its war against Ukraine,” asserted a defense-related source.

According to Ukrainian claims, SBU-operated drones have successfully targeted Russian oil facilities in multiple regions over 20 times.

On the ground, Ukraine reported ongoing clashes with Russian forces attempting to advance towards Chasiv Yar in eastern Donetsk, a critical town whose capture could facilitate Russian military progress.

In southern regions, Ukrainian forces are monitoring Russian movements towards Pokrovsk, aiming to control key roads crucial for logistical supply lines in the area.

Amidst these developments, Ukraine’s air force announced the downing of 10 Iranian-designed attack drones deployed by Russian forces during overnight operations.
