RSF liberates 17th Singa infantry division in Sennar state

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Monday a significant victory over al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) in Sennar state.

RSF said they had liberated the 17th Singa Infantry Division, cementing their control over the Sennar state.

RSF took over the headquarters of the 17th Infantry Division in Singa, located on the west bank of the Blue Nile after fierce clashes against SAF, their allies in the Islamic Movement, and the Popular Defense Forces.

The victory in Singa is particularly significant due to the division’s strategic importance, RSF said.

The RSF reported seizing a substantial cache of military equipment, including 112 fully equipped vehicles, six tracked armored vehicles, numerous weapons, ammunition, cannons, and 250 motorcycles.

RSF reported heavy enemy casualties numbering into the hundreds, along with taking control of key institutions in the area, including the state government headquarters.

RSF stated that the liberation of the 17th Infantry Division represents a crucial milestone in their mission to free Sudan from the influence of the former regime, the Islamic Movement, and their allies within the SAF leadership.

Since mid-April 2023, conflict involving the General Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has claimed approximately 13,900 lives and displaced more than 8.5 million Sudanese, according to UN reports, marking one of the largest displacement crises since World War II.

Despite international mediation efforts, the conflict has persisted into its second year, exacerbating Sudan’s humanitarian plight.
