Rabies confirmed in hyenas responsible for attacks on humans in Kenya

Kenya’s animal health authorities have verified that three hyenas involved in recent attacks on people in different locations were carrying rabies.

Unusual hyena attacks have raised concerns since January, prompting the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to issue a warning for residents in affected areas to exercise caution.

The confirmation of rabies in the hyenas is attributed to their aggressive behavior towards humans.

Despite the wave of hyena attacks, no human cases of rabies have been reported yet. The KWS has initiated mass vaccination of domestic dogs in Nairobi in response to the situation.
