Senegal presidential candidates urge swift vote by April 2

Fifteen of the approved presidential candidates in Senegal, out of the original 20, are advocating for the rescheduled vote to take place no later than April 2.

The call comes after President Macky Sall’s decision to postpone the February 25 election led to significant political unrest. Although the Constitutional Council overturned the postponement, the timing of the election and the list of candidates remain uncertain.

The signatories emphasize the importance of a prompt handover between the current president and his successor, urging adherence to the original candidate list.

President Sall has committed to organizing the election promptly following the Constitutional Council’s decision.
