The attack occurred during a Sunday service, targeting Catholic worshippers gathered at the church.
“It is with faith and hope that we bring to your attention the terrorist attack of which the Catholic community was the victim,” Bishop Dabire said in his statement.
“The provisional toll is 15 faithful killed, including 12 on the spot and two injured.”
Expressing condolences and solidarity with the affected families, the Bishop called for prayers for the deceased, the injured, and the grieving community. He also urged prayers for “the conversion of those who continue to sow death and desolation in our country.”
Burkina Faso has been grappling with a violent insurgency for the past decade, with attacks linked to al-Qaeda and Daesh/ISIS-affiliated groups spreading from neighboring Mali.
This latest attack adds to the growing instability and loss of life in the West African nation.
