Sudanese dictator Bashir moved to ‘military site’, says lawyer

According to a lawyer representing former Sudanese dictator Omar al-Bashir, his client has been moved from a hospital where he had been receiving treatment since the outbreak of conflict in the country in April last year, to what is described as a “secure military site”.

Mohamed al-Hassan al-Amin informed the Sudan Tribune news website that Bashir, along with four others, has been transferred from the Medical Corps facility after healthcare services there “ran out completely”.

Bashir, who was convicted of corruption and was facing trial for leading a military coup in 1989, had been undergoing treatment at a military hospital in Omdurman city. However, the hospital came under siege by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Throughout the conflict, Sudan’s regional and international partners have been unsuccessful in mediating between the army and RSF.

The war has resulted in the loss of at least 14,000 lives and the displacement of approximately 10 million people.
