RSF holds key Geneva talks, reaffirms commitment to Sudan’s stability

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces announced on Saturday that its Geneva delegation, led by Brigadier General Omar Hamdan, engaged in pivotal discussions focused on the evolving situation in Sudan and strategies to achieve lasting peace during separate high-level meetings with delegations from the African Union (AU) and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The RSF delegation expressed deep gratitude for ongoing regional and international efforts aimed at restoring peace in Sudan during their discussions with the AU representatives.

The Sudanese group emphasized that their participation in the Geneva negotiations, which were initiated by the United States, demonstrates their sincere commitment to ending the conflict and alleviating the immense humanitarian suffering endured by the Sudanese people.

The RSF delegation stressed that the refusal of the opposing General al-Burhan led Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) to engage in ceasefire negotiations, despite significant losses on the battlefield, is driven by internal divisions within the SAF and the influence of the former regime.

RSF told the AU delegation that the remnants of the former regime is exploiting the military for the radical and corrupt agendas of the National Congress Party and the extremist Islamic Movement.

In a separate meeting with the Saudi Arabian delegation, led by Saudi Ambassador to Sudan Ali bin Hassan Jafar, the RSF conveyed their profound gratitude for the kingdom’s persistent efforts to foster peace and stability in Sudan.

The RSF underscored Saudi Arabia’s key role in facilitating the Jeddah negotiations that led to the Geneva talks and praised the kingdom’s humanitarian efforts, particularly through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, in providing vital relief to conflict-affected communities.

The Sudanese group reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid across the country, underscoring their determination to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and bring an end to the ongoing violence.

RSF says meetings mark a significant step in the international efforts to achieve peace in Sudan and has signalled a continued willingness to cooperate with global and regional partners to restore stability to the war-torn nation.
