Khartoum Bahri diarrhea cases pass 4,000

Cases of acute watery diarrhea in Sudan’s Khartoum Bahri, currently controlled by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), have surged past 4,000, according to the Bahri Emergency Room, a volunteer group.

The group reported receiving 4,113 cases, with the majority concentrated in central and southern Bahri. A member of the group confirmed a widespread outbreak of diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and malaria. He emphasized that the situation is worsened by a lack of testing equipment and the closure of many hospitals.

The volunteer urged international health organizations and the warring parties to intervene, calling the health situation “catastrophic.”

River Nile State

Meanwhile, the health ministry in River Nile state reported an increase in cholera cases, with the total rising to 2,253 and 57 deaths.

Nationwide, the federal health ministry recorded 8,350 cholera cases and 270 deaths across eight states. Sudan’s healthcare system remains severely strained, with 80% of facilities in conflict zones non-operational due to shortages of medicine and supplies.

The crisis is being aggravated by the ongoing conflict and the arrival of the rainy season.
