Egypt helps Burhan’s army with airstrikes: Sudan’s RSF chief

The leader of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo accused Egypt of conducting airstrikes against his troops.

In a recorded speech on Wednesday, Dagalo said that Cairo trained and provided drones to Burhan’s army (SAF).

He alleged that Egyptian airstrikes pushed his forces back from the strategic Jebel Moya area.

Egypt has historically maintained close ties with Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, but it has also joined efforts with the United States and Saudi Arabia to mediate the conflict.

Earlier this year, Cairo hosted talks between Sudan’s rival political factions in an attempt to foster peace.

In his speech, Dagalo added that Egypt used US-made bombs in its strikes, suggesting that Washington had given its approval.

He further said the presence of mercenaries from Tigray, Eritrea, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine, while reiterating accusations of Iranian involvement alongside Burhan.

The RSF leader also noted a shift in tone from his previous support for peace efforts.

“This war will not end in one or two, three, four years,” he said. “Some talk about one million soldiers and soon we will reach one million.”

The conflict, which began in April 2023, has forced nearly 10 million people from their homes.
