Dengue fever outbreak takes 186 lives in Khartoum North

An outbreak of dengue fever in the Samarab district of Khartoum North has resulted in at least 186 fatalities, medical professionals reported on Friday, amid ongoing clashes between General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The emergency room in Samarab has recorded nearly 500 cases of the mosquito-borne viral infection, with the district remaining under RSF control since July.

“These epidemics present a significant threat to public health and demand immediate intervention,” a medical source informed media, noting the rapid spread of cholera alongside dengue.

Many residents of Samarab North have fled to neighboring districts to escape the violence, leaving the area largely deserted.

The emergency room has called on both sides of the conflict to ensure safe passage for humanitarian and medical assistance.

“Access to medicines and medical supplies is critical in tackling these epidemics and curbing their transmission,” the source emphasized.
