Fatal helicopter crash rocks DR Congo airport

A military helicopter crashed at N’Dolo Airport in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, on Wednesday, killing the pilot, co-pilot, and a technician.

All three individuals were foreign nationals, according to officials who spoke to Anadolu Agency.

The accident occurred as the helicopter attempted to land at the airport, located in Kinshasa’s Barumbu commune along the Funa River.

Authorities have yet to identify the victims or disclose their nationalities.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, though authorities are conducting an investigation.

Firefighting vehicles quickly arrived at the scene to contain flames sparked by the crash.

N’Dolo Airport is primarily used for light aircraft, making this incident especially notable.

Congo has a history of aviation accidents, with plane crashes frequently reported in the region.

On Tuesday, a military drone operated by M23 rebels also crashed in North Kivu province, further heightening concerns around aviation safety in the country.
