A 21-year-old Ugandan TikToker, Emmanuel Nabugodi, has been convicted for insulting President Yoweri Museveni in a video.
Nabugodi created a mock trial video calling for the president’s public flogging.
He faces up to seven years in prison for spreading hate speech.
After pleading guilty, Nabugodi was remanded to Kigo Maximum Security Prison until his sentencing on November 18.
Prosecutors have requested a seven-year sentence.
Nabugodi’s case is the fourth in recent days involving insults against the president.
In July, another TikToker was sentenced to six years for similar charges.
Author Kakwenza Rukirabashaija was arrested in 2021 for insulting Museveni and his son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
He was tortured and later fled to Germany.
Uganda has a history of suppressing free speech, with past cases including the jailing of a comedy troupe in 2020.
The country ranks 128th out of 180 on the Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index.
