Israel launched airstrikes on multiple sites in Yemen on Thursday, targeting infrastructure linked to the Iran-backed Houthi movement. The strikes included Sana’a International Airport, military facilities, and power stations, according to an Israeli military statement.
The attacks hit key locations such as the Hezyaz and Ras Kanatib power stations, along with military sites in the ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Kanatib.
The Houthi-controlled Al Masirah TV confirmed strikes on the airport, Hodeidah, and a power station but provided no further details. The Houthis have yet to comment on the incident.
The strikes follow a series of Houthi missile and drone attacks on Israel, which the group describes as support for Palestinians in Gaza. These attacks have disrupted international shipping lanes and prompted global concerns over rising costs and inflation.
On Saturday, a missile launched from Yemen struck the Tel Aviv-Jaffa area, injuring 14 people. Israel’s failure to intercept the attack has intensified its response against Houthi targets.
In response, Israel is lobbying European nations to designate the Houthis as a terrorist organization. The U.N. Security Council is set to discuss the Houthi attacks on Israel in a meeting scheduled for Monday, according to Israeli U.N. Ambassador Danny Danon.
The escalation underscores growing tensions in the region, with Yemen emerging as a key battleground in broader regional conflicts.
