A magnitude 5.8 earthquake struck Ethiopia early Saturday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake’s epicenter was reported 142 kilometers (88 miles) east of Addis Ababa, the nation’s capital, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), the USGS confirmed.
This follows a magnitude 5.5 quake in the same region on Friday, accompanied by over 30 smaller tremors throughout the past week, raising concerns about heightened seismic activity in the area.
