The Governor of the Darfur Region, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris Yahya, inaugurated the new academic year on Wednesday in Nyala, the administrative capital. The ceremony, marked by the ringing of the school bell, drew education leaders and civil administrators amid a festive atmosphere of cautious optimism.
Idris declared education a top priority for both the founding and territorial governments, vowing to strengthen the sector despite security and economic challenges. He pledged an intense focus on improving quality, promising safer, more stimulating environments for teachers and students across the troubled region.
Education, he noted, stands as a pillar of peace and development, indispensable for rebuilding lives fractured by years of conflict and hardship. The governor vowed to rehabilitate teachers, modernise infrastructure, and extend opportunities to children in areas scarred by violence and displacement.
Accompanying Idris was Dr. Hudaifa Abunouba, President of the Supreme Council of Civil Administrations, who echoed the importance of continuity in education. Abunouba emphasised that sustaining learning is the real guarantee of social peace, forging resilience and hope amid the fragility of Darfur’s recovery.
The day’s proceedings reflected more than a simple return to classrooms: they symbolised resilience, renewal, and a fragile step toward a brighter tomorrow.
