Former Sudanese prime minister Abdalla Hamdok said the conflict in Sudan amounts to “the world’s largest humanitarian catastrophe” and called a comprehensive Sudanese dialogue the only path to end the war, speaking at the annual Hili forum in Abu Dhabi.
In comments to Al-Ain News, Hamdok said a military solution is impossible and urged consensus on a broad political process built around a national project to: unify a professional, non-partisan army; draft a permanent constitution that reflects Sudan’s diversity; address questions of identity and the relationship between religion and the state; implement transitional justice and reparations; and advance community reconciliation.
Hamdok also praised the United Arab Emirates for easing the suffering of millions of Sudanese inside and outside the country, saying the UAE has hosted thousands of displaced people and provided support, describing it as a “second home” for many Sudanese.
He said the forum comes at a pivotal moment for the region and offers an important venue to discuss regional and international issues, lauding the UAE’s role in fostering dialogue and tackling global crises.
