Tasis appoints al Safi as head of Sudan national aid body

The Prime Minister of the Tasis government has appointed Ezz El-Din Mohamed Ahmed El-Safi as head of Sudan’s National Authority for Humanitarian Access with the rank of minister.

The government said the decision, issued by decree, is intended to strengthen efforts to address the country’s worsening humanitarian crisis and ensure greater coordination of relief operations.

The move was taken under the Sudanese Constitution of 2025 and Resolution No. (1) on humanitarian access, which provides a framework for organising aid delivery nationwide.

Under the order, Al-Safi will hold full ministerial powers, giving the Authority responsibility for managing humanitarian assistance and ensuring aid reaches all Sudanese citizens in need.

The Prime Minister’s statement said ministries, state institutions, and other agencies are required to fully cooperate with the Authority to guarantee effective relief efforts.

Sudan has faced mounting humanitarian pressures in recent years, with conflict, displacement, and shortages leaving millions dependent on aid for survival.

Analysts say the creation of the Authority reflects the government’s recognition of the urgent need for a central body to manage aid access and improve coordination with international partners.

While the announcement signals intent to address humanitarian challenges, questions remain over whether the new body will have the resources and autonomy to deliver results.
