Massad Boulos, U.S. adviser on African affairs under Donald Trump, said Washington is in continuous contact with all Sudanese conflict parties and is preparing for an inclusive, near-term dialogue to forge a workable roadmap for peace.
“We are maintaining ongoing communication with both sides to reach a peaceful solution and prepare for a broad dialogue with everyone, to realize a roadmap that will be implemented,” Boulos told Al Arabiya.
He emphasized that there is no military solution to Sudan’s crisis, and that a negotiated political path remains the only realistic route forward.
Boulos added that U.S. efforts are being coordinated closely with regional powers such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates — nations that have already been involved in previous Sudan peace initiatives — to build consensus around the roadmap.
In his comments, he also expressed optimism that a future dialogue could bring together General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces under one forum, noting that communication channels remain open.
Sudan has been at war since mid-April 2023 between General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces, a conflict that has displaced around 14 million people inside the country or into neighbours, killed more than 150,000, battered the economy, and crippled the health system amid outbreaks of disease.
