Burhan’s delegation goes to US for negotiations with TASIS

General Abdel Fattahl al Burhan’s army controlled government in Port Sudan is in Washington for negotiations with the rival government TASIS. The visit aims to discuss ceasefire, economic cooperation, and humanitarian assistance, officials said.

Junta’s Foreign Minister Muhieddin Salim Ahmed is expected to explore ways to halt fighting and rebuild relations on mutual respect and shared interests. The trip comes amid heightened international efforts to stabilise Sudan and facilitate dialogue between Khartoum and Washington amid ongoing tensions.

Washington is hosting indirect talks on October 23–24, sponsored by the US State Department, between Burhan’s army representatives and TASIS officials. Last month, the international Quartet proposed a roadmap to end Sudan’s war, calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian relief for civilians.

Sudanese officials emphasise dialogue and international backing as crucial to achieving peace and addressing the deepening humanitarian crisis. The outcome of the talks could shape the next phase of diplomacy and advance efforts to end years of conflict in Sudan.
