Massad Boulos, senior adviser to the U.S. president, said General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces have agreed in principle to a Quad-backed humanitarian truce and are working through technical and logistical terms ahead of a three-month ceasefire.
Boulos said envoys for both sides have been in Washington “for some time.”
Pressed on the UAE’s role in the Quad amid accusations it backs the RSF, Boulos said multiple states have supported both camps — citing Iranian help to the SAF — and urged a focus on peace and stability first.
He said both parties are engaging on a U.S. proposal supported by the Quad and warned the conflict poses wider risks, including to Red Sea shipping.
Boulos added that humanitarian needs and stopping the war take priority over everything else right now.
Talks between rival sides continue in Washington, though no final truce has been announced.
