Sudan’s warring leaders, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and Rapid Support Forces commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo also known as “Hemedti,” are expected to meet soon in Egypt’s new administrative capital, according to Egyptian journalist Amani Al-Tawil.
Al-Tawil, a Sudan specialist at the Al-Ahram Center for Strategic Studies, said preparations for the meeting are still underway, with several details under discussion.
The initiative follows Dagalo’s recent expansions in new cities, prompting a renewed international push for de-escalation. Sources familiar with the talks said the planned encounter will follow the signing of a U.S.-backed truce agreement in Washington.
The proposal, supported by the Quartet — the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates — seeks to halt fighting and allow humanitarian access across Sudan.
The document, titled “Structure of a Declaration of Principles for a Humanitarian Truce across all Sudanese Territory,” outlines a three-month ceasefire that could later extend to nine months.
If confirmed, the Egyptian meeting would mark the first face-to-face encounter between Burhan and Dagalo since the outbreak of war in April 2023, signalling a tentative step toward ending Sudan’s devastating conflict.
