Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire in Sudan and the creation of conditions for a comprehensive political process that preserves the country’s unity and stability. He said joint regional and international efforts are now essential to support the Sudanese people and their national institutions.
During his meeting with Annette Weber, the European Union’s envoy to the Horn of Africa, Abdelatty said the current phase requires stronger cooperation to help Sudan navigate the severe challenges it faces. He noted that a ceasefire is the first step towards restoring stability, adding that any credible political path must safeguard the country’s unity and the role of its national institutions.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the Government of Hope, describing it as the legitimate framework that reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people. He emphasised Egypt’s rejection of attempts to form any parallel authority, warning that it would only deepen the political crisis. He also noted that Egypt’s position aligns with European efforts to promote stability in Sudan, highlighting that coordination with the EU is vital for supporting calm and improving humanitarian conditions.
Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the EU in backing de-escalation efforts inside Sudan and improving the humanitarian situation amid the ongoing conflict. They affirmed that preserving Sudan’s unity and the stability of its institutions remains a top priority, with plans to intensify regional and international efforts to restore peace and stability in the country
