US bill targeting Muslim Brotherhood ‘historic,’ says Al-Mirghani

Ibrahim Al-Mirghani, a senior leader of the original Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and member of the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis), has welcomed the approval by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee of a bill to designate the Muslim Brotherhood and its branches, including those in Sudan, as a “terrorist organization.”

In a post on the X platform, Al-Mirghani described the committee’s decision as a historic step that delivers long-overdue justice to the Sudanese people, who endured three decades of the group’s totalitarian rule and continue to suffer from the consequences of what he called its criminal war, which has helped create the world’s largest humanitarian catastrophe.

He added: “We hope Congress will move quickly to grant final approval to this resolution. Designating the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization will help dismantle the sources of terrorism and extremism and bolster efforts to achieve a just peace in Sudan and across the region.”
