Sudan’s war hits military deadlock as US urges diplomacy

Former US Deputy Assistant Secretary for National Security Tom Warrick said Sudan’s war has reached complete military deadlock, leaving diplomacy as the only option.

Warrick said continued fighting will not deliver victory to either General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army or the Rapid Support Forces, deepening national paralysis.

He warned that without talks, Sudan risks state collapse, as battlefields harden and political space narrows to a single table.

Warrick stressed that growing human suffering and material destruction now exceed the capacity of both sides to sustain war.

He said sustained international pressure is essential to steer the rivals towards dialogue and halt Sudan’s accelerating slide into exhaustion.
