Burhan’s drone attack in Darfur kills 40 civilians

A deadly drone strike in Central Darfur has sparked fresh accusations between Sudan’s rival forces.

The Sudanese Revolutionary Awakening Council said the attack took place on Thursday in Al-Firdous, abruptly breaking the area’s fragile calm.

According to the council, six shells hit the location, killing Major General Ramadan Salem Abu Bakr and his adviser, Hamid Ali Abu Bakr.

The group also claimed Burhan’s army bombardment killed more than 40 civilians from a single family, raising fears of a mounting civilian toll.

Witness accounts suggest women and children were among those caught in the strike, casting a sombre pall over the remote desert community.

The council, a breakaway faction aligned with the Rapid Support Forces, denounced what it described as the deliberate targeting of villages and civilian areas.

It called on international humanitarian organisations to investigate the incident and hold those responsible to account.

Residents were urged to remain calm, amid concerns that rising tensions could trigger tribal unrest in the area.

Burhan’s forces have not commented on the allegations and have issued no official statement on the reported air operation in Al-Firdous.
