SAF escalation worsens crisis in Dilling and Kadugli

The humanitarian situation in Dilling and Kadugli has deteriorated dramatically as SAF intensifies its military operations across South Kordofan, according to media reports.

Local emergency response officials in Dilling said sustained artillery and air strikes by SAF have caused widespread destruction, mass displacement, and the near-total collapse of basic services. Large numbers of civilians have been forced to flee the city to other parts of Sudan and beyond, where they are facing extremely harsh humanitarian conditions.

Officials said most health facilities in Dilling are no longer functioning after being damaged by SAF shelling or abandoned by medical staff who could no longer work under constant bombardment. Severe shortages of medicines and essential medical supplies have compounded the crisis, leaving local emergency rooms and community initiatives struggling to provide even basic care.

Rising prices of essential goods such as flour, sugar, and cooking oil have further worsened living conditions, with many families unable to meet daily needs or afford to leave the city due to financial hardship caused by the ongoing conflict. Emergency responders have called on humanitarian organisations to urgently intervene to prevent further civilian suffering resulting from SAF operations.

In Kadugli, SAF has continued fighting in and around residential areas, particularly in the northern parts of the city, tightening security measures and contributing to growing instability. Media sources reported widespread intimidation and looting in Kadugli market and surrounding neighbourhoods, amid accusations that SAF-linked forces are targeting civilians and traders under the pretext of alleged affiliations.

The continued SAF military campaign has driven a sharp rise in prices and shortages of basic commodities in Kadugli. The cost of staple foods has surged dramatically, pushing many families to the brink of starvation. Local sources warned that if SAF attacks continue, the city could face a severe humanitarian disaster, with some families already resorting to extreme coping mechanisms due to the absence of aid.

Against this backdrop, RSF announced it had secured the main road linking Kadugli and Dilling after intense clashes with SAF, describing the move as part of efforts to break SAF’s military grip and ease pressure on civilians. In a recorded statement, an RSF fighter said forces from the Ta’sis alliance, including RSF and allied groups, had taken control of several key military positions considered strategic to Kadugli.

He said RSF and its allies are now positioned along the main supply route, effectively limiting SAF’s ability to continue shelling civilian areas from those locations.

SAF has not issued any response regarding these developments, as fighting continues to escalate across South Kordofan, with civilians bearing the brunt of the army’s ongoing military actions.
