Drone attack targets SAF headquarters in Singa

A drone attack targeted SAF command site in Singa, the capital of Sudan’s Sennar state, killing and wounding people, a military source told AFP on Monday.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said drones operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) struck the headquarters of SAF’s 17th Division in Singa. A resident of the city also reported hearing explosions and anti-aircraft fire.

Singa lies about 300 km southeast of Khartoum on a key route linking SAF-held areas in eastern and central Sudan.

Sennar state has been relatively calm since the SAF regained control of major towns in late 2024, advances that helped it capture the capital, Khartoum. The area was previously hit by drone attacks in October.

The latest strike came a day after the SAF-aligned government announced it was returning to Khartoum, nearly three years after relocating to Port Sudan.

Sudan’s war, which erupted in April 2023, has killed tens of thousands and displaced more than 11 million people inside the country and across its borders.
