The Sudanese Founding Alliance, TASIS, has criticised the UN Human Rights Commissioner’s visit as selective and incomplete.
They argued that focusing on certain areas while ignoring others limits the international community’s understanding of civilian suffering and widespread human rights violations.
Commissioner Volker Turk’s visit, running from Wednesday in Port Sudan until Sunday, January 18, includes meetings with local authorities, UN teams, and civil society groups.
The itinerary features the Al-Afad shelter for displaced people from El Fasher but notably excludes regions controlled by TASIS. TASIS warned that restricted access could result in partial reports, failing to capture the full humanitarian situation.
They urged the UN to expand the visit to multiple conflict zones to ensure accurate monitoring and protection of civilians. The coalition stressed that political efforts aimed at securing freedom and safety rely on transparent and comprehensive human rights oversight.
