The UAE International Aid Agency has signed a cooperation agreement with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to support Sudan’s deepening humanitarian emergency.
The agreement commits US$11 million to urgent relief, offering a lifeline to refugees and host communities strained by relentless displacement.
Ten million dollars will support Sudanese refugees and host populations in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda and Ethiopia, where services are under intense pressure.
A further one million dollars will bolster the International Federation’s Emergency Disaster Response Fund, strengthening rapid responses to unfolding crises.
The agreement was signed by Dr Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri and Secretary General Jagan Chapagain, underscoring a shared resolve to expand life-saving assistance.
The partnership will reinforce health care, water and sanitation services, and broaden aid for vulnerable families uprooted by conflict.
Al Ameri said the UAE’s humanitarian duty remains unwavering, stressing that cooperation ensures aid reaches those most exposed to suffering.
Chapagain described Sudan’s war as one of the world’s largest displacement crises, overwhelming neighbours struggling to shelter fleeing populations.
He said the funding will help national Red Cross and Red Crescent societies deliver essential services swiftly and effectively.
The pledge extends a decade of UAE support to Sudan, totalling more than $4.24 billion, including $784 million since the current crisis began.
