Zimbabwean forward Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya delivered a dazzling performance as AmaZulu edged TS Galaxy 3–2 in a pulsating South African Premiership clash on Sunday.
His two goals and one assist lifted AmaZulu to fourth place, as Durban’s warm evening shimmered with late drama.
The brace took Ngwenya to six league goals midway through the season, leaving him one behind Golden Boot leader Junior Dion of Golden Arrows.
Galaxy fought back strongly in the second half, with Victor Letsoalo and Zimbabwean Junior Zindoga striking to briefly seize a 2–1 advantage.
With tension thick in the air, Ngwenya carved open the defence and squared for Mlondi Mbanjwa to restore parity in Durban.
Then, two minutes into added time, the 23-year-old met a low cross and slid the winner past Ivorian goalkeeper Eliezer Tape.
AmaZulu climbed two places from sixth, while Galaxy slipped to seventh in Africa’s richest league, offering a 20-million-rand first prize.
AmaZulu now have 27 points, trailing Kaizer Chiefs on goal difference and sitting two points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.
Durban’s celebrations continued earlier as promoted Durban City beat Polokwane City 1–0, with Bokang Mokwena scoring after nineteen minutes.
