Egypt’s Ministry of Interior has ordered the immediate suspension of all Sudanese cultural forums, musical events, bazaars, and social activities in the capital, Cairo, according to informed sources.
The notification instructed organizers to halt all events without exception and urged caution against any gatherings until midnight, stressing strict compliance with the directive.
Sources said the decision explicitly prohibits Sudanese nationals from holding any cultural, artistic, or social activities without prior permits and security approvals from the relevant Egyptian authorities. It also mandates compulsory coordination with the cultural attaché at the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo.
The ban applies to all forms of events, including cultural seminars, music concerts, exhibitions, bazaars, and public gatherings. Organizers were warned that violations could result in legal accountability and strict punitive measures.
The decision has sparked concern among members of the Sudanese community in Cairo, particularly as many forums and bazaars serve as vital spaces for social connection and sources of income amid the severe economic hardships facing Sudanese refugees fleeing the war.
Observers say the move comes amid heightened security measures in the Egyptian capital, raising concerns over its impact on the cultural and social activities of foreign communities—especially Sudanese residents, who rely on cultural events to preserve their identity and provide mutual support during displacement.
