The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Friday condemned what they described as shelling by General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied forces on a market in the city of Zalengei, Central Darfur, which they said killed and injured civilians.
In a statement, the RSF said the attack targeted Kilo Market near the Saraf Omra transport station, killing 13 civilians and wounding six others, including two women. The group said several commercial shops were destroyed and civilian property was damaged.
The RSF accused SAF aircraft of deliberately targeting civilians in marketplaces, describing the incident as part of what it called a long-standing pattern of extremist violence.
“The systematic targeting of civilians in markets confirms to the world that our country is facing organised terrorism and extremist groups whose danger to Sudanese society, human rights, and dignity we have warned about for three decades,” the statement said.
The RSF strongly condemned what it referred to as attacks on civilians, markets, and civilian infrastructure, and called on the international community to denounce what it described as “heinous crimes” against Sudanese civilians.
The group said that merely designating the SAF as a terrorist organisation was insufficient, urging what it called legitimate international measures to combat terrorism and extremism in Sudan.
The RSF further claimed it remains committed to fighting extremist groups and establishing a state based on the principles of Sudan’s 2025 constitution, which it said guarantees freedom, justice, and equality for all citizens.
