The United Arab Emirates has pointed to a review by the British government as evidence undermining what it described as “misleading claims” by General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) that Abu Dhabi supplied weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, said remarks by UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper at the Munich Security Conference were “important and revealing,” noting that Britain had examined around 2,000 arms export licences and found no basis for allegations that the UAE had armed the RSF in Sudan.
Gargash said the UAE’s position on Sudan has remained unchanged, stressing calls for an immediate ceasefire, the unhindered flow of humanitarian aid, and a transition to civilian rule within a clear and agreed timeframe.
“The facts expose deliberate misinformation, and the UAE’s stance is clear and consistent,” Gargash said.
General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) has repeatedly accused the UAE of financing and arming the RSF, which has been engaged in a nearly three-year conflict with the military. Abu Dhabi has rejected the accusations, describing them as part of a broader disinformation campaign aimed at deflecting attention from the army’s own conduct during the war, despite claims by the military that it presented evidence to the UN Security Council.
