The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Wednesday condemned what they described as a “horrific crime” committed by the SAF aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood, accusing it of deliberately targeting unarmed civilians in West Kordofan State.
In a statement, the RSF said the attack took place on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan in the village of Umm Rasoum, where civilians had gathered at a water well known locally as a “Dawanki” to collect drinking water. The assault reportedly killed dozens of people, including women and children.
The RSF held the SAF fully responsible for what it called a massacre, urging the international community and human rights organizations to take note of what it described as the systematic and recurring nature of such attacks. According to the statement, the area targeted had no armed presence, and the assault forms part of a broader pattern of violence against civilians.
The group said the attacks constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity under international humanitarian law, particularly because they targeted civilians and essential resources such as drinking water. It stressed that such crimes are not subject to any statute of limitations.
The RSF called for an immediate and independent international investigation into the incident, the prosecution of those responsible, and the adoption of deterrent measures to protect civilians in conflict zones.
Reaffirming what it described as its commitment to protecting civilians and defending their right to life and security, the RSF urged national forces and “people of conscience” to unite to end what it called systematic killings and impunity.
The statement concluded with a tribute to those killed, referring to them as “righteous martyrs.”
