Türkiye urges ceasefire and Sudanese-led talks at UN

Türkiye’s envoy to the United Nations called for a permanent ceasefire in Sudan, urging an inclusive political path forward.

Speaking at a Security Council session, Ahmet Yildiz voiced deep concern over Sudan’s escalating conflict and worsening humanitarian crisis.

“Türkiye is gravely concerned regarding the ongoing conflict and the humanitarian situation in Sudan,” Yildiz told council members.

He reaffirmed Ankara’s unwavering support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, describing them as pillars of regional stability.

Yildiz warned that foreign interference is fuelling the violence and risks spilling instability beyond Sudan’s borders.

“We also note with grave concern the negative impact of foreign interference,” he said, cautioning against regional repercussions.

He stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the most effective tools to silence the guns and restore fragile hope.

According to Yildiz, peace efforts cannot succeed unless they are owned and led by Sudanese actors themselves.

He urged international partners to transform their initiatives into a truly inclusive peace process rooted in local leadership.

Such a process, he said, should secure a permanent ceasefire followed by a comprehensive political transition and accountability.

Yildiz also highlighted Türkiye’s continued humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people amid deepening hardship.

He called on the Security Council to prioritise urgent humanitarian needs while facilitating Sudanese-led dialogue efforts.

As Sudan’s conflict grinds on, Türkiye signalled that durable peace must rise from within, not be imposed from afar.
