RSF captures Tina, ending SAF control in Darfur

Rapid Support Forces (RSF), operating under the Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS), have taken full control of Darfur after capturing the border locality of Tina, the last remaining stronghold of General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied joint forces in the region.

Tina locality, in North Darfur state, lies along Sudan’s northwestern border with Chad and had been the final military foothold held by the SAF and its allied armed groups in Darfur. Its fall effectively removes all five Darfur states from the control of the SAF, marking a major military and political shift in western Sudan.

The area is considered strategically significant, serving as one of Sudan’s key land crossings linking the country to Chad and, by extension, West Africa.

In recent months, the locality had been used as a base by factions of the Justice and Equality Movement led by Jibril Ibrahim and the Sudan Liberation Movement headed by Minni Minnawi. According to local sources, the presence of these groups contributed to tribal and social tensions in the area, culminating in the assassination of traditional leader Sartay Adam Sabih earlier this year.

These developments reportedly fueled local opposition to the continued presence of the armed movements, which residents accuse of maintaining ties with military intelligence.

The advances by the Sudan Founding Alliance come amid intensified political activity by the group, both inside and outside the country, as it seeks to consolidate territorial control and expand its political outreach.
