Omdurman committees reject Burhan’s Ramadan breakfast

The Omdurman Resistance Committees have firmly rejected any political engagement with General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, following the circulation of invitations to a Ramadan breakfast.

In a statement, the committees vowed not to join a process that could legitimise the military, citing unresolved questions from the violent dispersal of the sit-in at the General Command.

They stressed that transitional justice must address past abuses, warning that political talks without accountability would betray the revolution’s core demands.

The committees recalled that protests after the sit-in were met with force, with medical and human rights reports documenting deaths, injuries, and arrests.

They insisted that any future political process must prioritise ending junta rule and securing justice for victims of human rights violations.

Emergency lawyers report an expansion of criminal charges against political activists, saying these prosecutions deepen societal divisions and political polarisation.

The committees emphasised that transitional justice should come before any political settlement, while other actors prioritise halting the conflict and restoring stability.
