Drone strikes belonging to General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army struck markets in Rapid Support Forces-controlled towns in Sudan’s Kordofan region on Sunday, killing 33 people and injuring dozens more.
Two of the attacks hit small towns in West Kordofan, a resource-rich area that has become the fiercest front in nearly three years of conflict.
In Abu Zabad and Wad Banda, local hospital sources reported 33 dead and 59 wounded.
Residents, bypassing a communications blackout via satellite internet, shared harrowing accounts of destruction and the hurried burial of victims.
Hamad Abdullah, a resident of Abu Zabad, said he helped bury 20 people, including four relatives who worked at the market.
He blamed Burhan’s army, accusing it of deliberately targeting civilians amid ongoing clashes with RSF.
Since April 2023 air strikes—from fighter jets and later drones—have repeatedly killed dozens, heightening fears among local populations.
