UN warns rising costs delay Sudan relief shipments

Humanitarian aid delivery to Sudan is becoming increasingly costly as global shipping disruptions continue to worsen.

The UN refugee agency says the ongoing conflict in the Middle East is driving up freight prices and delaying critical relief shipments.

Spokeswoman Carlotta Wolf said transport costs for aid bound for Sudan have more than doubled in recent months.

She warned that higher fuel prices, rising insurance premiums and congestion at ports are steadily draining funds intended for frontline humanitarian work.

Shipping capacity has also declined, forcing the agency to divert cargo onto longer and more expensive sea and land routes.

According to the agency, the cost of transporting relief supplies to Sudan has now surged to nearly $1.87 million for key shipments.

Officials caution that if instability persists, aid flows could slow even further, worsening an already severe humanitarian crisis affecting millions of displaced people.
