The Sumud alliance on Saturday proposed a renewable three-month ceasefire to help end Sudan’s civil war.
The proposal emerged during peace talks in Nairobi involving Sudanese political groups, civil forces and armed movements, including the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdul Wahid al-Nur and the Sumud alliance headed by former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.
The proposal calls for a monitored ceasefire and the creation of a joint military committee to oversee violations and support accountability.
Delegates said the initiative aims to reduce violence and build trust between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces.
Sudan has faced a devastating humanitarian crisis since war broke out in April 2023.
