Egypt has intensified diplomatic contacts with regional partners over the ongoing conflict in Sudan, reaffirming its support for the country’s unity and state institutions.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held separate phone calls with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan to discuss developments in the region, particularly the worsening crisis in Sudan.
According to Egypt’s Foreign Ministry, the talks focused on the continued fighting and its impact on Sudan’s stability. Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said Abdel-Aty underscored Egypt’s commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity and national institutions.
During the discussions, Egypt stressed the importance of a humanitarian truce to facilitate the delivery of aid and alleviate the suffering of civilians affected by the conflict.
Officials said such a pause could help pave the way for a permanent ceasefire and broader efforts to end the war.
Egypt also renewed its backing for a comprehensive political process led by Sudanese stakeholders, arguing that any lasting settlement must emerge from a Sudanese-led framework capable of restoring stability and ending the conflict.
