Chadian authorities closed Sudan’s consulate in the eastern city of Abéché on Sunday, June 14, 2026, and ordered the consul-general and diplomatic staff to leave the country within four days, according to Sudanese diplomatic sources cited by local outlets.
The sources said Chad declared the Sudanese consul-general, Gaddafi Abdullah Mohamed, and other consular staff persona non grata, effectively expelling them from Chadian territory.
Diplomatic sources cited by Assayha said the decision came as part of measures adopted by N’Djamena to address Sudanese diplomatic representation on its territory. They did not disclose the direct reasons behind the move.
Other Sudanese outlets, citing Darfur24, reported that the decision was linked to alleged violations by the consul-general, though no official statement from the Chadian government had been issued at the time of reporting.
The closure marks a further escalation in already strained relations between Chad and Sudan since the outbreak of Sudan’s war in April 2023. Sudan’s SAF-aligned authorities have repeatedly accused Chad of involvement in the conflict, allegations N’Djamena has denied.
Abéché, located in eastern Chad near Sudan’s Darfur region, has become increasingly significant during the war due to its proximity to refugee routes, border movements and cross-border humanitarian operations.
There was no immediate official comment from Sudan’s Port-Sudan-controlled foreign ministry.
