Social media goes wild: Rodents damaged 3B S Sudanese pounds

Social media has been set ablaze by explosive claims saying that nearly 3 trillion pounds were destroyed inside a bank in South Sudan, bizarrely pointing to rodents as the cause.

The Central Bank of South Sudan has moved quickly to shut down the story, saying no such losses have taken place in any of its facilities or storage systems.

In a strong denial, the bank’s media and public relations department stressed that Governor Johnny Ohisa Damian has made no statements whatsoever regarding damaged currency notes.

Officials described the circulating reports as entirely false and misleading, warning they are aimed at stirring confusion and shaking confidence in the country’s financial system.

The bank is urging both the public and media outlets to exercise caution, verify information before sharing, and avoid amplifying unverified claims that could destabilise trust in the economy.

Reaffirming its position, the institution says it remains committed to transparency and to the timely release of accurate financial information to maintain public confidence.
