The United Kingdom is sounding the alarm at the UN Security Council over Sudan, warning that the war has entered a dangerous new phase.
British officials are pointing to escalating violence in the city of El Obeid, calling it an increasingly perilous frontline that threatens to destabilize the wider North Kordofan region.
UK Ambassador James Kariuki stressed that this conflict cannot be solved on the battlefield.
He demanded an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, urging both General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces to protect civilians and open safe evacuation routes.
London is also calling for a complete halt to external foreign support, which they say is fueling the war and deepening civilian suffering.
While the Security Council didn’t adopt any formal resolutions during the session, British officials say the political signal is clear: civilian protection and a credible political process must happen now to stop the country from fracturing further.
