Egypt shuts Sudanese-run cafes over licensing violations

Egyptian authorities in Aswan have shut down several Sudanese-run cafes after an inspection campaign uncovered multiple regulatory violations, according to local media.

The campaign targeted the Old Friendship area and the surrounding industrial city, where inspectors found several establishments operating without the required licences.

Authorities also reported discovering alcoholic beverages inside some of the cafes, alongside other violations that prompted enforcement measures.

Legal action has been taken against the businesses found in breach of regulations, officials said, without providing further details on the number of closures.

The operation involved officials from the East Aswan district and was carried out under directives issued by the Aswan governorate.

Inspectors also removed encroachments and confiscated items from several beverage establishments as part of efforts to enforce local regulations.

Officials said the campaign reflects a broader drive to tighten oversight of commercial activities and ensure businesses comply with licensing requirements.

Authorities added that similar inspection campaigns will continue across the area, signalling sustained efforts to monitor commercial establishments and address future violations.
