A cholera outbreak is rapidly spreading across Wad Banda, Al-Nahud and nearby villages in Sudan’s West Kordofan, with at least 30 deaths and more than 800 infections reported in over 25 villages, according to the Dar Hamar Emergency Room.
The volunteer group also warned of severe shortages of diabetes medication, urging health authorities and humanitarian organisations to deliver emergency medical supplies and contain the outbreak.
The crisis comes amid ongoing fighting across Kordofan and Blue Nile between General Abdel Fattah al Burhan’s army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has crippled healthcare and other basic services.
Medical authorities said increased drone attacks have caused more civilian casualties and displacement, worsening the humanitarian situation.
In a separate statement, the Sudanese Doctors Network said more than 200,000 people in North Kordofan, including 20,000 children, face critical shortages of food and medicine.
It also reported more than 100 measles cases among children and 45 cholera infections, warning that urgent aid is needed to prevent the crisis from worsening.
