Aid warehouses in Kauda have been emptied following a disputed looting incident, heightening tensions in Sudan’s South Kordofan region.
The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North said rebels raided storage facilities near Kauda airport.
Local administration officials said emergency food supplies intended for displaced families were stolen during the raid.
Movement representatives said the incident was the third reported warehouse looting in the district in recent weeks.
However, traditional leaders from the Atoro tribe strongly rejected allegations blaming the local population for the looting.
The tribal leaders accused movement officials of exploiting humanitarian aid shortages for political purposes through unverified statements.
Community leaders also alleged that officials secretly moved aid supplies to military areas before publicly reporting the warehouses as looted.
Local leaders called for an immediate independent investigation by international relief organizations to establish who was responsible.
