Umma Party leader Mubarak Al-Fadil Al-Mahdi said the Islamic Movement and National Congress Party are the main political and military allies of SAF chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Al-Fadil described the two groups as the internal political force supporting Sudan’s current government, despite operating largely behind the scenes because of international sanctions.
He said the Islamic Movement’s Shura Council held a conference in Atbara, where it elected Ali Karti as secretary-general and approved Ahmed Haroun as president of the National Congress Party.
Al-Fadil also accused the Islamic Movement of forming and arming loyalist militias, including Al-Baraaoun, while limiting weapons access for other mobilized groups.
He attributed the continuation of the war and the rejection of ceasefire efforts, including the Jeddah and Manama agreements, to the influence of Islamist groups.
Warning against efforts to impose a fait accompli on Sudanese citizens, Al-Fadil urged Burhan and the military leadership to end the conflict.
He called for a comprehensive, neutral and secure national dialogue to preserve Sudan’s unity and protect civilians from worsening humanitarian conditions.
