Two hundred fifty Sudanese citizens departed Alexandria aboard five buses on Tuesday as part of Egypt’s voluntary return program.
Deputy Consul General Ghanem Ahmed Yahya bid farewell to the travelers, saying the state considers facilitating citizens’ return a national responsibility.
He added that the program is designed to ease the economic burden weighing on Sudanese nationals returning home.
Security and stability have been restored across much of Sudan following that shift, he told the departing group.
He said voluntary return trips will continue in succession until every citizen wishing to travel can do so with ease.
Returnees are expected to take part in reconstruction efforts underway in regions devastated by the war.
The deputy consul thanked Egypt’s government and people for hosting Sudanese nationals throughout this difficult period.
